The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) announced on 17 December 2021 (under MHLW Notification No. 408 of 2021) a partial amendment of Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food additives etc. (Act No. 370 of 1959) to revise the maximum residue limits (MRL) of MCPA, MCPB, Acynonapyr, Amisulbrom, Ametoctradin, Imazapyr, Etoxazole, Oxathiapiprolin, Kasugamycin, Glyphosate, Chlorantraniliprole, Chlorfluazuron, Gentian violet, Cyazofamid, Cyennopyrafen, Cyclaniliprole, 2,4-D, Cyflufenamid, Diflubenzuron, Cyflumetofen, Spinetoram, Zoxamide, Tetraniliprole, Picarbutrazox, Pyraziflumid, Pyriofenone, Pyroxasulfone, Fenpicoxamid, Fenhexamid, Fluoxastrobin, Fluxametamide, Flutianil, Flutolanil, Broflanilide, Prohexadione-calcium, Hexythiazox, Benzovindiflupyr, Benthiavalicarb-isopropyl, Mandipropamid, Mandestrobin, Mesotrione, Metaflumizone, Metyltetraprole, Metrafenone, Mefentrifluconazole and the Gentian Violet Test Method based on Article13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).

Main revisions:
1) Maximum Residue Limits (MRL)
Partial amendments has been made for the MRL of Acynonapyr, Amisulbrom, Ametoctradin, Imazapyr, Etoxazole, Oxathiapiprolin, Kasugamycin, Glyphosate, Chlorantraniliprole, Chlorfluazuron, Gentian violet, Cyazofamid, Cyennopyrafen, Cyclaniliprole, 2,4-D, Cyflufenamid, Diflubenzuron, Cyflumetofen, Spinetoram, Zoxamide, Tetraniliprole, Picarbutrazox, Pyraziflumid, Pyriofenone, Pyroxasulfone, Fenpicoxamid, Fenhexamid, Fluoxastrobin, Fluxametamide, Flutianil, Flutolanil, Broflanilide, Prohexadione-calcium, Hexythiazox, Benzovindiflupyr, Benthiavalicarb-isopropyl, Mandipropamid, Mandestrobin, Mesotrione, Metaflumizone, Metyltetraprole, Metrafenone and Mefentrifluconazole based on Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).
2) Gentian Violet Test Method
Gentian violet refers to a substance that is a component of pesticides, etc. that must not be detected in food when tested by the Gentian violet test method (including test methods recognized to have performance equal to or better than that test method). In addition, "Gentian violet" will include mean Gentian violet and Leuco Gentian Violet.
Applicable Date:
This amendment shall apply from the day of notice. However, for the below food listed for each agricultural chemical etc., existing standards can still be used within one year from the announcement of this notification.
