The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has announced the partial amendment of the "Standards and Specifications for Health Functional Foods" (hereafter referred to the "Korean Health Functional Food Code") under notification no. 2019-10.

Reasons for Revision:

The MFDS has revised the applicable standards for the acid and peroxide values in edible oils containing EPA and DHA.

Main Revisions:

To revise the scope of standards applicable for acid and peroxide values in edible oils containing EPA and DHA [Article 3. 2-16)].

This is to reflect the reality of production of edible oils containing EPA and DHA; and the acid value and the peroxide value should be applied only to raw materials and the products containing antioxidants.
