Korea | Prohibition of Sales of Coffee in Schools from Sep 14, 2018

The Ministry of Food & Drug Safety (MFDS) has annouced that sales of coffee and high calorie-low nutrients food shall be banned in schools and exemplary business establishments selling children's favorite food in September, 2018 for a month pursuant to the regulations prescribed in Article 7 of the "Enforcement Decree Of The Special Act On Safety Management Of Children's Dietary Lifestyle" (Restrictions on or Prohibition of Sale of High-Calorie, Low-Nutrient Foods, etc.) (MFDS No. 2018-356).


Implementation period: Sep 1 ~ 30, 2018 (1 month)



What is food containing high caffeine?

According to Article 10 of the 「Food Sanitation Act」 and the labeling standard of Article 6 of the 「Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act」, "high caffeine food" refers to liquid food containing 0.15mg or more caffeine/ml.

What is high calorie / low nutrient food?

It refers to foods with a higher calorie and lower nutritional value than the standards prescribed by MFDS which may cause obesity or nutritional imbalance.
