The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has announced a proposed partial revision on the "Labeling Standards for Genetically Modified (GMO) Products" (2018-192) on May 4, 2018.

Pursuant to the revision of the "Enforcement Regulations of the Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management" (Prime Ministerial Decree No. 1442 of 9 Feb, 2018), the MFDS has proposed amendments to harmonize the submission documents concerning the exemption of labeling of GMO foods.
Revision of Label Exemption Documents for Genetically Modified Food
(Draft Article 3 (2)(1)(1))
1) Harmonization of related regulations with other laws.
2) In addition to IP Handling and the government certificate as GMO labeling exemption documents, the MFDS has proposed to revise the regulations to allow the submission of a test and inspection report proving that product is not a target subject of GMO labeling to be admissable pursuant to Articles 6 and 8 of the Act On Testing And Inspection In The Food And Drug Industry.
