The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has announced on Oct 10, 2017 that they have proposed a partial revision of the regulations on the “Standards and Specifications for Food Utensils, Containers and Packages” (Notification no. 2017-367).
In order to reflect the results of field survey on food utensils, containers and packaging, and to meet consumer and industrial demand for various products, the standards and specifications of three items, namely, Hydroxybutyl polyester, Hydroxybenzoic acid polyester, Butylenesuccinate-adipate copolymer (PBSA) and Butylenesuccinate copolymer (PBS) shall be revised or newly established to improve the standards and specifications of food utensils, containers, and packaging in terms of test solutions, phthalates, and 1,4-butanediol.
Main Changes?
A) Revision and newly established definitions of 3 items
Revision of definition of Hydroxybutyl polyester (III. 1-22)
New establishment of name and definition Butylenesuccinate-adipate copolymer (PBSA) and Butylenesuccinate copolymer (PBS) (Ⅲ. 1. 1-37)
Separation of standards and specifications for Hydroxybenzoic acid polyester (Ⅲ. 1. 1-39)
B) Rational improvement of analytical methods and wordings used
Standardization of migration test solution preparation by materials (IV.2.2-6)
Improvement of measuring conditions of mass spectrometer for phthalates tests (IV.2.2-19)
Improvement of standard solution preparation of melamine analytical method and 1,4-butanediol analytical method (IV.2.2-28, 2-41)
Modification of wordings of analytical methods etc. Ⅲ. 6., Ⅳ. 2. 2-6, 2-9, 2-27, 2-31, 2-35, 2-44, 2-45, 2-50, 2-53, 2-54, 2-55, 2-56)
C) Setting of review period
